                1st edition 1882

The Society of Telegraph Engineers and Electricians who later changed their name to become the Institution of Electrical Engineers (the I.E.E.) first published "Rules and regulations for the Prevention of Fire Risks Arising from Electric Lighting" in Britain.

Subsequent publications were as follows-

                2nd edition in 1888
                3rd edition in 1897

New editions were then published approximately every five years until

                14th edition in 1966
                15th edition in 1981
                16th edition in 1991

In 1992 the British Standards Institution adopted the IEE 16th edition (and all subsequent editions) as British Standard 7671 "Requirements for Electrical Installations"

                17th  edition 2008

There is only one safety standard for electrical installations in Britain . . .
the BS7671  IEE Wiring Regulations 17th edition.
