Changing light fittings, switches and sockets can change the appearance of your house, but remember it's just surface dressing. You are not actually improving your home electrics. In fact sometimes, just doing something minor like changing a light switch it's easily possible to make things totally unsafe and potentially lethally dangerous. With electrical safety in mind, there are two jobs in your home which by far give the best value for money:- 1. Replacing old fuseboxes with a new consumer unit ( ref. F.A.Q. Why should I replace my old fusebox? ) 2. Ensuring that your house has all the correct green & yellow earth safety cables and that they are properly connected. ( ref. F.A.Q. Is my house safe? ) and they don't cost any more than a couple of fancy light fittings. |
